🥃 Time to slow down and boost - 🥫 #4
It's end of the year! For some companies, December is a slow month where almost everyone take leaves from work 🍃. For Singapore, it's also the month when most of us start to get our booster shots 💉.
Highlights of the month
Quietly released localisation features for busrouter.sg 🚀
Took a nice photo from a walk. 🚶
And another photo. 📸
Received stickers from Prisma. 👾
Took my 3rd jab, experienced some side effects. 💉
Celebrated my 15th-year Twitter anniversary. 🎂
Added dark mode CSS to my personal site. 🦆
Had some issues on taxirouter.sg.
Interesting discoveries
1) The fry universe 🍟. 3D fries, yes but I prefer waffle fries 😋
2) Cool to know this Making of: Singapore’s Digital IC.
Making of: Singapore’s Digital IC | by Rahman Ahmad | NDI.sg | Dec, 2021 | Medium — medium.com I was sitting for PSLE when Singpass launched in 2003. Maybe there was much fanfare surrounding it, but there was nary interest, nor did it register on my radar. The first time I accessed Singpass…
3) Funan now has an underpass to Capitol, all the way to City Hall MRT.
4) I've tried printing a lot of custom stuff before. But recently bumped into this: custom printing red packets (ang pow). 🧧💰
5) There's a 2048 game… to complete your PhD 😂😂😂
6) This repository has been a good laugh for me: mkrl/misbrands (The world's most hated IT stickers)- and of course, its pull requests (worth browsing through!).
Story time
On 26 Dec, I received two coffees ($10 donation) from a stranger who claims to be a taxi driver.
There's a few typos in the message but the phrase "we taxi drivers are using..." caught my attention. Okay wait, taxi drivers are using my web app, taxirouter.sg ?
Few moments later, I received a Whatsapp message from a stranger.
That's when I realised taxi drivers are really using my web app. I don't know how or why they use it but wow that was a surprising moment for me. I also felt weird to get donations from taxi drivers too 😅.
It took me a while to debug, report and fix the issue.
Honestly speaking, it's not difficult to build the site at all. I've even wrote about it:
2016: Building TaxiRouter SG
2018: Rebuilding TaxiRouter SG
This is basically one of those projects that I build for fun, learnt a lot of cool things, enjoyed the process and sort of forgot about it later.
Only now I know there are real people, even taxi drivers, using it every day.
5 years after I launched it.
